Application Process To Join The Mac Investigator List

The Harris County Office of Managed Assigned Counsel (MAC) seeks investigators who are committed to client-centered advocacy, holistic defense, and zealous investigation. To fulfill those values, investigators should be able to demonstrate through training and experience their knowledge and proficiency in criminal defense investigations, criminal law and procedure, investigative techniques and interviewing skills.

Requirements for Admission to MAC Appointment List

Initial Requirements:

  • Must Be a company license holder (company owner must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an investigative field (or combination of Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Political Science, or Sociology AND experience) or be employed by a company license holder AND at least 1 year of criminal defense investigation experience
  • Not have been employed by law enforcement agency in the last 6 months
  • At least 18 years old
  • Company owner show proof of and maintain liability insurance

Additional Requirements as per the DPS Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 1702

  • At the time of application be charged under an information or indictment with the commission of a Class A or Cass B Misdemeanor or Felony offense determined to be disqualifying by commission rule
  • Not have been convicted, in any jurisdiction, of a felony level offense
  • Not have been convicted, in any jurisdiction, of a Class A or equivalent misdemeanor
  • Not have been convicted, within the past 5 years, in any jurisdiction, of a Class B misdemeanor or equivalent offense
  • Not currently charged with, or under indictment for, a felony, or a Class A misdemeanor
  • Not currently charged with a Class B misdemeanor
  • Not have been found by a court to be incompetent by reason of a mental defect or disease and not have been restored to competency
  • Not have been dishonorably discharged from the United States armed services, discharged from the United States armed services under other conditions determined to be prohibitive, or dismissed by the United States armed services if a commissioned officer in the United States armed services
  • Not be required to register in this or any other state as a sex offender
